Baby Skinks- 1 week to 4 weeks can be fed once a day.

This is not the Bible of skink feeding. Here some commonly asked questions that can be age related. How often should I feed my skink?
The other big question is. How much do I feed my skink?
Well, the answer to these questions is. The portion size should be about Twice the size of your skink's head, no matter the age. Never feed objects that are bigger than the width between their eyes.
Water- Clean water should be offered daily. Spring or Filtered water..
Bts do get a lot of hydration through Humidity, and Food.
However, these Skinks are avid drinkers. You should offer a water dish large enough for a shallow soak as well.
Snacks are treats given between Normal meals. For an adult skink, no more than once or twice a month.
Pictured above is a can of River Shrimp. 4 or 5 of these is what I may normally feed as a snack. A snack no matter what it is, should only be 2 or 3 good bites.
So what is the deal with fruit?
Well fruit is junk food for your skinks. You should not feed fruits especially bananas, but every so often. The reason is that these fruits are high in sugars and your skinks metabolism is slow. Too much of these foods can cause a hefty skink.
Personally, I do not agree or disagree with feeding pinkies. Facts do not stop, just because of our feelings or opinions though. However, I am also a snake owner so it doesn't bother me or not bother me. The fact is, Is that this is no different than feeding live insects. This is actually pretty popular.
Reserve these guys for periodic snacks, Unless your skink is under weight. They have a high fat content, so just be mindful.
Younger Skinks need higher Protein.
Under 1 month= 90% Protein
1 month to 10 months= 50% Protein
10 months and over= 40% Protein
Blue Tongue Skinks have slow metabolisms.
Because of this we do not want to over feed and we do not want to feed a lot of fruit. Fruit is junk food for your Indo.
An overweight skink is not a healthy skink.
Just some Food for Thought.
I recommend things like dubia roaches, horn worms, crickets, wax worms and many others as snacks. I can not recommend these as staple foods though they can be fed with staple meals.
They just do not have the right nutritional values. Yes, they eat them in the wild but BTS are not insectivores.
The other thing to remember, is never to leave live food in your enclosure such as crickets, mice or other things of this nature. As they can bite and do harm your Indo. You do not want to wake up or come home to find out that your BTS is injured or worse.
Just be mindful.
Can your skink
have Raw foods such as meats?
Raw chicken, turkey, beef, eggs, insects, snails and much more. People feed these foods all the time. Indo's are scavengers and opportunistic eaters. BTS will even eat things like Carrion (dead flesh) and Feces in the wild.
With this being said, I do not feed Raw meats, eggs or anything unless it's insects or raw fruits and vegetables.
The reasoning behind this is, my skink is a pet. My children handle my BTS.
Why take an unnecessary risk of spreading E.coli to salmonella?
This is one aspect of the food conversation that most BTS owners do not think about.
I am not saying that it is wrong or to be discouraged. I just don't feed these types of foods to my Indo. When you pick your skink up, what happens? Chances are that you get licked by your scaly dog, who has been eating raw food.
If you have the time and have did your research. Kudos!
Chances are, you can whip up and prepare an outstanding meal for your Indo.
But, few people can accomplish this and have a well balanced meal. Or with our busy schedules, we normally do not have the time. That's o.k.
There are products like insects in a can or Repashy.
Almost any Repashy product can be fed to your skink.
Repashy makes the ever so popular Bluey Buffet, Meat Pie, Grub Pie, & Veggie Burger. Mix with warm water (read the instructions),
Let the product setup and cool, cut into hearts, stars, squares, or whatever shape you desire. Now you have
pre-made meals that can be refrigerated. The nice thing is that you can use these for a few different reptile species at the same time.
Cat food and Dog food will be your bread and butter.
We will go over these as well.
Cat food is recommended for skinks
10 months and younger.
The reason behind cat food is that a good Quality Cat food, will be more balanced than trying to prepare a raw diet.
Cat food is also higher in protein. This is crucial for a growing skink.
Good Quality, does not mean the most expensive. Good quality means grain-free, as it will not be filled with fillers.
I recommend keeping different brands, in different Flavors.
Well you get a variety.
Not only do you get variety but you get variety of the same flavors.
Think about this for a moment.
If you go to the grocery store and you pick a few different brands of only vanilla ice cream.
Let's say you get the store-brand,
Then you get Bluebell's,
Then you get Eddy's. Then you get Breyer's, All in vanilla.
(And you can try this.) You open each one up and you taste each one.
Here's what the results will be.
Every Vanilla will taste like Vanilla.
However, none of those vanillas will taste the exact same way.
So when buying and choosing your skinks food. If you buy chicken or whatever flavor you choose, get a couple of brands in that flavor.
Dog Food is recommended for Adult skinks 10 months old or older. When your skink moves to eating once a week. Dog food is recommended because your skink does not need the same amounts of protein. Foods that are too rich, can and may cause liver damage over long periods of time. It is recommended to cut these foods with organic baby food or other types of veggies, if you get a meat only food.
The same principle for cat food, applies for dog food, when it comes to flavors and variety. Both Dog food, and Catfood, will contain crucial vitamins and minerals that your skink needs to thrive. These are all reasons these types of foods come highly recommended.
AVACADO, ONION, RHUBARB , EGGPLANT.
These are the Main 4 that will spell disaster for your skink
It is o.k. to give fruit in rations, BTS do need fruit in their diet, but it is easy to over do it.
